THE ACADEMIC YEAR is divided into two semesters: winter semester and summer semester, and consists of:
- courses included in the plan of study;
- two examination sessions;
- internships (if included in the plan of studies during a given semester);
- winter and summer vacations.
CREDITS:
- credit period on full-time and part-time studies is semester;
- credits and examinations apply the following grading scale:

The following scale is used for final grade of courses, grading examinations (including diploma examination).
- some of the courses, may be credit by entered word: ZALICZONY- Zal (passed - credit without grade) in the protocol and USOSweb;
- dates of credits and examinations are given to students by leading teachers during classes;
- final credits in USOSweb can only be made by a leading teacher of the subject and, in the special situations (in case of illness, business trip etc.), the second person designated by the Head of a faculty;
- in case of getting an unsatisfactory mark in a basic date of a credit student has the right to a correction date.
EXAMINATION SESSION:
- credits take place during the classes, and examinations take place during examination session, it means that during a semester student shall get credits for classes, laboratories and conservatoires, while during a examination session student shall pass examinations;
- student who has failed a course automatically may not take an examination of the same subject matter;
- if the student has obtained a credit for course in make-up term, the first examination term becomes make-up examination term and credit obtained in basics (first) term is unsatisfactory.
- in case of getting an unsatisfactory (or considered unfair) mark in a basic or correction date student can submit a justified request to for a permission to participation in a commission credit;
- the application for a participation to commission credit student shall submit to the head of the department;
- a request for a commission credit must be submitted within 2 working days from the date of announcement of the results of the credit. Commission credit must take place within 5 working days from the date of announcement of results of the previous credit;
- commission credit takes place before a board appointed by a head of the department or the Dean. Commission consists of at least three academic teachers or two academic teachers and a doctoral student;
- mark issued by commission is definitive and substitutes the questioned mark even if the first one was positive and the second one is negative;
- the first date of an examination in an examination session is called a basic date;
- the second date of an examination - a correction date (if in a basic date student will get unsatisfactory mark he/she has right to a correction examination);
- if the student's grade for the exam in the standard term - basic date - is a fail grade, student has right to take make-upe examination for every subject;
- if student fails to obtain a positive mark during those two dates (in a basic or correction date) she/he can apply to the Dean for taking on a commission examination;
- an application for an commission examination should be submitted within 2 working days from the date of announcement of the results of an examination. The examination itself should take place within 7 working days from the date of the announcement of the results of the examination, mark from which student questioning;
- the mark from a commission examination in every case is decisive and substitutes the questioned mark.
- the commission examination takes place in front of a committee consisting of:
a) the dean, vice-dean or an academic teacher at least with the postdoctoral degree as a chairman or the commission appointed by the dean
b) an examiner who carried out the examination (in the basic or correction date)
c) a second expert in the subject of the examination or related specialization.
- student who has received a fail grade for an commission examination can not continue studies in the following semester - on student's written application the Dean may let the student repeat the semester.
- courses from which student has not received a positive mark must be repeated by him/her;
- for an unexcused absence in the first term, make-up term of the exam or commission examination the student receives a fail grade
- in an exceptional situation - (e.g. in the case of long-term illness) student can apply for extansion of examination session.
- to get the Dean's permission for that student needs to:
a) download an application form from the department's website (tab International Programmes -> Application forms & downloads);
b) submit a properly filled form to the dean's office as soon as possible with explanation and attachments (e.g. sick leave certificate from doctor);
c) monitor his/her account in the USOSweb (information about decisions will be visible in the comments section to the credits).
In case student failed course she/he can apply for:
1. Permission for continuation of studies in following semester with repeating failed course (called conditional credit):
- if student failed a course he/she needs to get the Deans permission before repeating the course. In order to do that student needs to:
a) download an application form from the department's website (tab International Programmes -> Application forms & downloads);
b) submit a properly filled form to the dean's office;
c) monitor his/her account in the USOSweb (information about decisions will be visible in the comments section to the credits).
- if student gets permission he/she will repeat a course or a part of it at the same time studying the next semester (if the course is run then; if not, the course shall be passed at the earliest possible semester). Student has to pass failed course within two semesters.
2. Repeating of semester:
- student can be directed to repetition of a subject if he/she has not obtained a permission for conditional repetition of a subject or he/she has not passed a commission examination;
- in case a student is obligated to repeat a semester he/she should get the Deans permission before repeating the semester.
- in order to do that student needs to:
a) download an application form from the department's website (tab International Programmes -> Application forms & downloads);
b) submit a properly filled form to the dean's office;
c) monitor his/her account in the USOSweb (information about decisions will be visible in the comments section to the credits).
LEAVES:
- in few cases student may be granted a short-term (for a period shorter than one semester) or a long-term leave (1 or 2 semesters):
1) sick leave - in case or a long-term illness confirmed by a medical report
2) random leave - due to important circumstances (eg birth of a child, difficult financial situation, important trip),
3) academic leave - due to studying in the second or next field of study, internship or apprenticeship.

b) submit a properly filled form to the dean's office with explanation and attachments (e.g. sick leave certificate from doctor);
c) monitor his/her account in the USOSweb (information about decisions will be visible in the comments section to the credits).
