Doctoral thesis presents the subject of the modeling of functional and informative requirements of a marketing database, designed to satisfy the informative needs of managers of all levels in the field of the customer relation management . One of the main challenges in the modern business is to create permanent relations with customers. To accomplish this task it is necessary to change the way of thinking and looking at a company’s activity: from a one oriented on the production of the goods and services to a customer-oriented chain of values . In a longer perspective such approach allows to achieve a stable advantage over the competition by changing the orientation of the company to the marketing (customer oriented).
Moreover, nowadays, to achieve the goals it is essential to use the computer technology in management process. Using large data-sets processing and profiting from the availability of useful information managers can lower the risk of taking wrong decisions. They have a better knowledge about the company’s environment and, what is more important, about the clients and their needs. The model solution has been presented in the standard of the UML language, which enabled transformation of the model into a real application form.
The doctoral paper has a pratical application – it is possible to create a computer solution based on the proposed model. Its functional and informative range will support the decision-making process of all management levels in the field of marketing. The model of application suggested in the paper, allows current work of a commercial, marketing or after-sales service department teams. Moreover, it has been expanded with analytical solutions based on the data warehouse and OLAP technologies.
