In 1990 he got calls for chairs at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz and the Heinrich Heine University of Düsseldorf which he rejected. Since 2011 he is responsible for “Supply Chain and

Besides General Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management is Professor Pfohl’s main research interest. Prof. Pfohl contributes very actively through his research activities to new
developments in General Management and to the development of logistics concepts. He cooperates intensively with companies of all sectors in applied research and consulting projects. The result of
his research is documented in an extraordinarily extensive list of publications including books, articles in collected editions and journals as well as study reports. His books “Logistiksysteme”
and “Logistikmanagement” have been translated into Polish and Chinese. The latter is also true for his book “Betriebswirtschaftslehre der Mittel- und Kleinbetriebe”.
He pushed the development of the logistics concept not only by his research, but also by his activities in the European Logistics Association (ELA), an umbrella organization for the professional
national logistics associations in Europe. There he held the positions of vice president and president and is still a member of the board. He founded the ELA Research Committee which is responsible
for Europe-wide surveys, the bi-annually organized ELA Research Day and the annually organized ELA Doctorate Workshop. He is still the head of this committee. In Germany he founded the scientific
commission “Logistik” in the “Verband der Hochschullehrer für Betriebswirtschaft” and the scientific committee “Logistik” in the Bundesvereinigung Logistik (BVL), the largest professional logistics
association in Germany. In Poland he developed a practice-oriented advanced training of logistics instructors for the Institute of Warehouses and Logistics in Poznan.
Professor Pfohl is an often invited Keynote-Speaker at logistics congresses, like e.g. at the Polish logistics congress. He is also a permanent international lecturer at European and Asian
universities. He very actively supports the international exchange of students.
