Department of Foreign Languages
Since it was established in 1947, our university has always recognized the importance of foreign languages in the professional careers of its graduates. The Department of Foreign Languages employs
well-qualified and experienced staff, currently 60 language teachers. They regularly participate in teacher training programmes organized by national and foreign language centres, as well as
postgraduate and doctoral studies. One of our assets is the infrastructure, offering high-quality language training conditions.
University students participate in obligatory courses of two foreign languages, with a choice of English, French, Spanish, German, Russian and Italian. Additionally, they can take part in courses
of Japanese and Chinese. The department also offers specialist tuition in Polish for foreign students. In line with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), we provide five levels of
language training: A1 (elementary), A2 (pre-intermediate), B1 (intermediate), B2 (upper-intermediate) and C1 (advanced).
Overall, the department offers 21 language courses and access to 16 prestigious language certification exams in six languages, with licenses from major international language centres, including the
chambers of commerce in Britain, France and Germany, Goethe Institute and Cervantes Institute. The department is licensed to conduct TestDaF examinations and is a certified Cambridge ESOL Exam
Preparation Centre. The Department of Foreign Languages has participated in a range of EU-funded initiatives and projects.
